Barney & Clyde (Gene and Dan Weingarten, writers; David Clark, art) regularly plays with the expectations of the comic reader (see: Meta Barney & Clyde). Popularly, the term "meta" is used to describe art that is self - aware. Such as movie characters who know they're in a film, or a hero who knows he's a character in a book.
